Open Chemistry

The Open Chemistry project has been accepted as a mentoring organization in the Google Summer of Code for a second year! This is our second year as a mentoring organization, and we look forward to welcoming more students than ever as we have extended our umbrella to cover a number of outstanding open source chemistry projects out there. You can check out our ideas page, and view our instructions for submitting a proposal. In addition to Avogadro related projects, we have 3Dmol.jscclib, RDKitOpen Babel, MSDK, and NWChem. We have a great range of mentors, spanning everything from visualization through to quantum calculations of molecular systems.

We are very excited to see what our students propose this year, if you know any that might be interested please let them know about us. Student applications are open from 30 March to 3 April, so you still have time but we would like to hear from prospective students soon. Our students will be announced in early May, and coding runs from 30 May to 21 August. This is a great opportunity to be paid to work on open source, interact with experienced mentors on a number of projects in an array of different programming languages and technology stacks.

Looking forward to a great summer of code, looking back at my own summer of code way back in 2007 when I started working on Avogadro!
